Purpose of establishment and functions

The New Space Era is upon us, and the space industry is undergoing a major paradigm shift. Now, there is a greater emphasis on innovation driven by the private sector, and universities must also adapt to meet the evolving demands of the space industry. The International Space Cooperation Promotion Council was founded to enhance Korea’s competitiveness in space technology by serving as a hub for industry-academia-research cooperation in East Asia, bringing together advanced technologies and research capabilities from around the world. The Council also aims to pave the way for novel space missions by promoting multidisciplinary collaboration.
Moreover, the Council will contribute to the sustainable growth of the space sector by strategically securing core space technologies, leading cutting-edge space trends, and pioneering new space markets.

Vision and Goals of Research Center

Goals
  • Establishment of a global space industry integrated platform Establish a space industry hub that facilitates industry/academia/research/government/military collaboration centered around joint research with international organizations Establish a global governance system for space industry R&D
  • Establishment and Operation of a Joint International Research Institute Develop core space technologies and foster specialized talent through the establishment and operation of a joint international research institute Establish a global R&D hub that promotes a virtuous cycle of international startups and technology commercialization
Implementation Strategy
  • Pursuing Joint Research in Core Space Fields Promote joint research with international institutions (e.g., DLR) in areas such as space exploration/transportation, satellite communications, and space mobility Develop R&D roadmaps and agendas based on a global implementation framework
  • Strengthening Domestic and International Collaboration Networks Establish international exchange networks Establish a “Space Campus” to attract global experts
