KAIST Space Institute is pleased to host Dr. Martin Grabe as part of the "KAIST Space Institute Seminar Series".
We look forward to your participation in this seminar.

□ Date and Time : February 11(Wednesday), 2026, 11:00~11:50
□ Venue : Haedong Information Room(#2602), Mechanical Engineering Building(N7)
□ Speaker : Dr. Martin Grabe (Head of the Rarefied Flows Group, DLR in Göttingen)
□ Seminar Title : Recent and current research topics in the DLR Spacecraft Department
□ Abstract :
The Spacecraft Department in the DLR Institute for Aerodynamics and Flow Technology was founded in Göttingen, Germany, more than 60 years ago, to build and harbor expertise in all domains of fluid dynamics relevant to space flight. Building on this rich heritage, the department continues to develop and apply numerical and experimental methods to support German, European and International partners (including the Republic of Korea) with aerothermodynamic analyses of space transportation configurations, planetary (re-)entry probes, liquid rocket engines, orbital and air-breathing propulsion systems, as well as the interaction of these diverse systems with their environments. The seminar talk will give an overview over recent and current research interests in the Spacecraft Department, with the intention to thus promote an informed and fruitful exchange on subjects of mutual interest.

□ Bio :

Martin Grabe is heading the Rarefied Flows group in the Spacecraft Department in the DLR Institute of Aerodynamics and Flow Technology at the German Aerospace Center (DLR) in Göttingen. After graduating from the Technical University Dresden in 2008 (Mechanical / Aerospace Engineering), he joined the scientific staff of DLR to develop the numerical and experimental capacity of the department in the field of Rarefied Gas Dynamics. Dr. Grabe received his doctoral degree from the University of Stuttgart, Germany, in 2017. In DLR, Dr. Grabe is responsible for the DLR High-Vacuum Plume Test Facility (STG-CT) with its subsidiary vacuum chambers, and for the development of software to model the rarefied flow in and about engineering-scale configurations. He is a program committee member of the International Symposium on Materials in a Space Environment, and Advisory Bord Member of the International Symposium on Rarefied Gas Dynamics.
